Q: What is Laser Hair Removal?

A: Laser hair removal is a treatment that uses fast pulses of light energy to damage the hair follicles. This prevents
the hair regrowing.

Q: Does Laser Hair Removal Hurt?

A: Traditional hair removal is known to be painful and uncomfortable but not all laser hair reduction systems are the same. Here at Reading Cosmetic Laser we have the latest and most sophisticated technology that’s currently available on the market for permanent hair reduction called the Motus AY. This has totally revolutionised how laser hair removal works, offering for the first time a pain-free solution.
Our Motus AY laser hair removal uses a unique technology called a Moveo handset which has a special sapphire crystal that allows the laser beam to travel through it, delivering bursts of laser energy to the hair follicles. During the treatment, the sapphire crystal is placed directly on the skin, the crystal cools the skin down and it allows the laser to burn the hair follicle which absorbs the energy as heat so it can’t produce hair anymore. The heat then travels down the pigment of the hair and damages the follicle preventing its ability to grow back new hair.

Traditional laser hair removal usually feels like a strong elastic band being flicked against your bare skin. However with our Motus AY, the cooling sapphire crystal protects and soothes the surface of the skin during hair removal.

Because of this incredible protective effect, the sapphire crystal is protects you, and protects your skin from being burned. The Motus AY uses different wavelengths which allows the hair follicles to be heated but it doesn’t allow the skin to be heated, so the chances of getting burned with this laser are almost zero, being able to eliminate the hair regrowth without harming the skin.

This makes the treatment completely painless because there’s no burning of the skin, unlike traditional hair removal systems where skin burns are often a natural part of the treatment and that’s why it actually hurts.

Q: How long does laser hair removal last?

A: Most of our clients see a 90% permanent reduction in their hair growth. Results will vary from person to person, and can depend upon hair type and colour.

Q: Is laser hair removal safe?

A: The Moveo handset uses technology which guarantees you maximum patient comfort due to the gradual heating and the contact cooling system.
Unlike standard laser hair removal technologies which deliver laser energy in one quick blast, the Moveo handset repeatedly passes over small areas and distributes the energy evenly and more effectively. Because of its protective effect, Moveo is the only technology which allows 755nm Alexandrite laser to be safely used on all skin types, even on darker skins tones which was never possible before. It prevents nearly all of the common side effects that people experience when they have traditional laser or IPL hair removal.

With the Motus AY Laser Hair Removal is safe, we cannot comment on the safety of other, cheaper machines. The Laser only target the hair follicle leaving the skin itself untouched. You may experience some redness on the skin but this does usually disappear within 24 hours.

Q: Is laser hair removal expensive?

A: Compared to the lifetime cost of shaving or waxing (and the time this takes up each and every week) you will find that laser hair removal provides great value for money.  One quite recent study demonstrated that women can spend up to £23,000 removing unwanted hair over the course of their lifetime using traditional methods.

Q: How many treatments are needed?

A: We usually recommend a minimum of 4-6 laser hair reduction sessions. Several sessions are needed as the laser is only effective on the hairs that are currently in their growing stage. Our hairs are not always in the same phase of their growth cycle. This is why to ensure the best long lasting and successful results we need to repeat the treatment sessions. At your consultation our laser technician will be able to advise you on your individual needs.
